Hindu Temples

India is a Hindu Nation & thereby  , obviously New Delhi has a Large Hindu Population . Quite a Few , Large  Temples within New Delhi  have been Built to cater as Hindu Places of Worship . Birla Mandir , Chattarpur Temple ( Complex ) , Malai Mandir ,Akshardham Temple are amongst the largest Temples within New Delhi . Apart from Hinduism , Sikhism is another religion which originated within India . Gurudwara Rakab Ganj , Sis Ganj Sahib , Bangla Sahib are amongst the most prominent Gurudwaras within New Delhi . Lotus Temple , within New Delhi is a Baha’i House of Worship .

Kedarnath Temple ( Rudraprayag ) Uttarkhand . India ( Picture Below ) : Kedarnath temple is one of the holiest Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva . The temple is not directly accessible by road and has to be reached by a 13 km uphill trek from Gaurikund. The temple is believed to have been built by Adi Sankaracharya  and is one of the twelve Jyothirlingas, the holiest Hindu shrines of Lord Shiva. The temple is also one of the four major sites in India's Char Dham pilgrimage. The actual temple is an impressive stone edifice of unknown date. No specific family of pujaris supervises rituals at Kedarnath, which focus around veneration of the stone lingam that rests in the inner sanctum of the temple. Behind the temple is the samadhi mandir of  Adi Shankaracharya , a Hindu Saint & Philosopher.The most remote of the four Char Dham sites, Kedarnath is located in the Himalayas, about 3584m above sea level near the head of Mandakini River , and is flanked by breathtaking snow-capped peaks. Kedarnath hosts one of the holiest Hindu temples and is a popular destination for Hindu pilgrims from all over the world.. Kedarnath is accessible only after a steep 14 km trek through a paved path (horses or palanquins are available for rent) from Gaurikund, which is connected by road from Rishikesh, Haridwar, Dehradun and other important hill stations of the Garhwal and Kumaon regions in Uttarakhand. The temple is open only during the months of April/May(on Akshaya Trithiya) to October/November (closes on Diwali - festival of light), due to heavy snowfall and extreme cold weather during winter.

Malai Mandir ( Munirka , New Delhi )

MALAI MANDIR ( New Delhi ) India :Sree Uttara Swami Malai popularly known , as Malai Mandir . The temples reflect the glory and grandeur of South Indian Temple Architecture at its best. The Temple  sits  on Top of a hillock  , with presiding Diety Murugan  , while other Hindu Dieties ( Sree Vinayak ( Ganesh ) , Sri Sundarishwar  ( Shiva ) and Devi Meenakshi ) are at the foot of the hillock . The Temple Looks magestic & is one of the Most beautiful Temples in New Delhi .

Gurudwara Rakab Ganj ( Central Secretariat , New Delhi ) India

Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib is an important historic Gurdwara in Delhi, India. It’s located at the exact spot where Dhan Guru Sri Teg Bahadur   headless body was cremated after the Mughal executioner Jalaudin of Samana beheaded the ninth Guru of the Sikhs. The present location of the magnificent Gurdwara is on the Pant Road in New Delhi, facing Parliament House and North Block of Central Secretariat. The modern building is composed mainly of white marble surrounded by a beautiful garden. Like most other Sikh shrines this Gurdwara has entrances from four sides symbolising that they are open to all without any distinction of caste or creed. Temple ( Gopuram Style Archictecture ) Chattarpur

Made up of white marble, the temples are a real ecstasy. They spiritually persuade devotional zeal. There are several lush gardens adding to the beauty of the complex.

The temple architecture is designed clearly in South Indian style. This is the style that developed in the Dravida Desam. The Vimana and the Gopurams are the distinctive characteristics of the Southern style. The Vimana is a tall pyramidal tower consisting of several progressively smaller storeys. This stands on a square base.

The Gopuram has two storeys separated by a horizontal moulding. The Prakara or the outer wall, envelops the main shrine as well as the other smaller shrines, the tank.The Pallavas, the Cholas, the Pandyas, the Vijayanagar rulers, the Nayaks all contributed to the Southern style of temples.

Extended over a wide area in serene ambience, the temple presents a classic example of modern temple architecture that embodies extensive use of marbles.

The Laxmi NarayanTemple ,( also called Birla Mandir )  in  New Delhi , India is a Temple built in honour of Goddess of Wealth , Lakshmi & her Consort Lord Vishnu – The Preserver .It is a Temple with many Shrines , Fountains & a large Garden . The Temple attracts thousands of  Devotees on the day of Janmashtami , the birthday of Lord Krishna .The Main Temple houses the Statues of Lord Vishnu  & Goddess  Lakshmi . The Left Side of the Temple Shikhar houses the Temple for Goddess Durga , the Hindu Goddess of Shakti , or Power . The Right Side Temple Houses Lord Shiva , sitting in Meditation Mode . The Right Side of the Front Gate , houses Lord Ganesh , the First God to be worshipped before all  Hindu Religious Rites &  Rituals . The Left Side to the Temple Houses Lord Hanuman   , Devotee of Lord Ramachandra & Sita .

 

Shiva Temple ( Gaumukh ( Gangotri Glacier ) Himalayas )

Gaumukh (cow's mouth), the ice cave, lies at a distance of 18-19 km from Gangotri. It is a lovely trek offering magnificent views of the peaks in the region. However, environmental degradation is setting in due to the incredible numbers of pilgrims that visit the area every year. Modern transportation has made access to the region easy and as a result, the numbers that visit the region are far in excess of what it can accommodate. The Gangotri Glacier is a Traditional Hindu Pilgrimage Site .Devout Hindus Consider Bathing in the Icy Waters near Gangotri Town to be a Holy Ritual & Many Make the Trek to Gaumukh & Tapovanam
